The Fishing Game

Age group : Best played by students aged between 3 and 6

Materials :

  • A fishing rod, made by attaching a magnet to the end of string tied to a long stick, for each team

  • A timer (most modern smart phones have a timer app)

  • Fish are made by cutting out the pictures of printed copies of Appendix O, and attaching paperclips to each fish nose.

Preparation time : 30 minutes to an hour to prepare the materials (but after

all materials have been made, they can be reused in future classes with no additional preparation)

Number of players : Works equally well in groups or private classes

Objective : To be the team with the most fish

Instructions :

If all materials have been assembled, spread the fish across the floor. Give a fishing rod to one member from each team. Advise them that a timer will count down from 2 minutes, and in that time each team must collect as many fish as they can. After each fish is caught, students pass the fishing rod on to their next teammate, so that each student has a chance at catching fish. The process is repeated if their is time remaining in the 2

minute allocation. After 2 minutes are up count how many fish each team has caught, and play the next round if time permits. The winning team is the team that catches the most fish.
