Online compatible : Yes.
Age group : Best played by students aged between 9 and 12.
Materials :
Preparation time : Time taken to print a single copy of Appendix S2 and cut out the counters of Appendix S3 (Around 15 minutes).
Number of players : Works equally well in groups as in private classes.
Objective : To be the first team to form a line of four either horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
Instructions:
Separate the class into two teams and assign each team either the cat or chicken counters of Appendix S2.
Arrange the counters of each team into three stacks - one stack for each of the three letters A, B, and C written on the counters, and pile them up from the smallest counter at the bottom to the largest at the top.
Each turn a team may choose to either place a new counter from the top of one of their three external stacks onto an empty space of the board, or move one of the counter already on the board to a different space (it doesn't need to be a adjacent space).
If a player decides to move a counter they may move it to an empty space or onto another counter of a number value lower than the counter being moved. I.e. a counter marked "A2" may be move onto a counter marked "B1", but may not move onto a counter that is marked "A3" or "A4". It may be moved onto a counter of the same or of the opposing team.
Players may not look beneath counters on the board to see the counters hidden underneath, and once a player has touched a counter they must move it. Part of the challenge and the fun of the game is remembering which counters have been hidden by others.
The winner is the team that completes a line of four counters either vertically, horizontally or diagonally.
PERMISSION IS GIVEN TO EDIT AND PRINT THE APPENDICES FOR USE IN THE CLASSROOM.
