The Fishing Game is a great game to teach counting, and especially counting animals, to young learners. The materials are cheap to gather together, and it can be fun for kids well into their primary school years, but we find it works best with children between 3 and 6, because it's simple to understand, and it can be as competitive or non-competitive as the teacher feels the students can cope with.
