Number codes

The photo above was taken at a community centre in Japan in January of 2023, with students aged ten to twelve.

Age group : Best played students aged between 5 and 12

Materials:

  • A set of flashcards for each team (For these instructions we will use flashcards with the numbers 1 to 5, although the game would work equally well with any other vocabulary flashcards)

  • A selection of cards with different sequences of the flashcards

Preparation time : 15 to 20 minutes to prepare the number cards and sequence cards

Objective : To be the team to score the most points at the end of the game.

Instructions :

Split the class into teams. Each team must have members equal in number to the flashcards (for this example, the flashcards contain the numbers 1-5). Give each member of each team one of the flashcards from their set. On the count of three, hold up a sequence card for all teams to see. The students must then position themselves in the same order as the sequence of the card. When they have done so they hold up their cards. The first team that has correctly poisitioned themselves in the order of the sequence card wins a point for their team. At the end of the game, count how many point each team has. The winner is the team with the most points.
