Age group : Best played by students aged between 6 and 10

Materials :

  • A set of marbles of the same color for each team (For example, 5 red for the first team, and 5 blue for the second team.)

  • 1 uniquely coloured marble

Preparation time : None

Number of players : Works equally well in groups or private classes

Objective : To be the team with the most points

Instructions :

Hand out marbles to each team. In classes with larger student numbers, give fewer marbles to each student. In classes with fewer students, each student may be given more marbles. Clearly define a line on the floor. Explain that students may only throw their marbles from behind the line, and that any marble thrown over the line results in a penalty. At first, throw the uniquely coloured marble a few metres beyond the line. On each turn a student must roll or throw their marble as close as they can to the uniquely coloured marble. Students are allowed to hit other marbles with their own. They may also strategically roll their marbles to block other players. When every marble has been rolled, the distances from the unique marble to the other marbles are measured. The marble that is closest wins a point for their team. Players collect their team's marbles and the next turn begins with the unique marble being throw to a new position. At the end of the game, count how many points each team has won. The winning team has the most points.
