This spooky craft is intended for use in Halloween themed parties with children learning English as a second language. Once teachers have followed the instructions of this video and created their own "Transforming Tumbler", using materials that can be bought very cheaply from a thrift shop, the completed craft is flat and lightweight, and can be easily sent to any online students' homes.
In classes, students draw, color, and decorate 2 long, thin images, such as those provided at the links on the right, onto plain paper, which they cut into 3 rectangular sections and glue to either side of the craft.
Teachers can find a template sheet of 4 rectangular boxes in the appendices. In our own classes we decorate "Tumblers" with 4 sections as well as 3, and depending on the length of our "Tumbler". We ask our students to decorate and cut an equal number of boxes from the template to the length of the "Tumbler". The template can be downloaded and sent to online students and printed. Our resident artist has also drawn some spooky images for students to colour as an example of how the cards can be decorated. Teachers are welcome also to print and colour them in lessons.
The video was made with help from Sachiko at "えとり Create + English". Sachiko regularly teaches online craft classes in English from Japan. Check out her website at the link below:

I'm sure you must be tired from making your own tumblers, but before you go take a quick catnap,
have a peek at some of our own online halloween craft classes in the video.
