Preparation time : 15 - 30 minutes to prepare “Ball Toss Bingo”, and flashcards.


Class size : Large Group class.

Materials :


  • For “Ball Toss Bingo” : A ball for each team; The lesson’s target vocabulary are each written or printed on a separate sheet of paper equal in number to the students in the class, with one side left blank; Printed copies of Appendix A for each team, with different target vocabulary drawn or glued to all of the nine boxes (Game 2 bingo sheet should also be prepared, if a teacher intends to play multiple games in a class); A CD of children’s songs and a CD player; Coloured crayons.


  • A printed set of flashcards of the target language.

Instructions


1. Begin class with one or two songs. If this is the first class, a “Hello song”, and “Heads, shoulders, knees and toes” are a good starting point. Most children in Japan know of “Heads, Shoulders, knees and toes”. Practice the actions for each song, before singing with the CD.

2. Show the flashcards to the class and repeat the words together.

3. Play the “Ball Toss Bingo” game to practice the target language : Instructions can accessed by left clicking the button below.

4. Say or sing goodbye to your students.
