Online compatible : Yes.
Age group : Best played by students aged between 6 and 10.
Materials :
Preparation time : None
Number of players : Works best in large classes.
Objective : To accurately guess the number of thumbs in play twice.
Instructions :
First separate the game into teams of equal numbers.
At the beginning of each players turn, in order that all players are revealing at the same time, say a chant together, such as "Thumbs in. Thumbs up. Thumbs down.", to an easy rhythm. At the end of the chant all players decide whether or not to raise each of their thumbs, and immediately reveal their hands to the class. Simultaneously, the player whose turn it is must guess aloud how many thumbs they believe will be revealed. If this game is being played online, make sure that each players hands are clearly visible to the camera.
If the guess is accurate to the number of thumbs revealed by all players, that person may remove one hand from play, therein playing with a single hand. The chant is now repeated and it is the next players turn to guess.
If a player guesses accurately twice their team is declared the winner, or if time is short and the game needs to be ended early, the team with the least remaining thumbs in play wins.
This game requires no preparation at all. Even if you don't have thumbs, a couple of pens works just as well. A tail works nicely too, but you apes lost yours! Whatever were you thinking?
